This article contains some of the best sites to find online tutoring jobs.

These websites provide opportunities for all sorts of people who possess useful knowledge and skills they can share with others, from college students and industry professionals, to teachers and those who just fancy a career change!

One of the main advantages of registering with various tutoring websites is that often you don’t need to worry about a lot of the legwork i.e. finding students, dealing with pupils who try to haggle about the lesson fee, or worse still, not paying up!

Best Online Tutoring Sites To Work For

This is a good option for face to face and for online tutoring. The customer support is very good to help get you started and if you have a technical problem. It’s a great way to get started as a a full-time tutor, or whether you’re looking to supplement your income from your day job.

However, they take a big cut, 40% commission, but this does reduce with the more hours you work using their platform. Also, they can be quite strict with certain policies with some tutors complaining about their accounts being deleted. Furthermore, you need to be based in in the US to use their service.

First Tutors

Another popular site is First Tutors. They are very efficient in ensuring you can find the right students to tutor with thorough background and security checks. Like Wyzant, you can teach face to face, or online. However, you have a bit more freedom with their platform, in that once they find a student for you, you can then just deal with them yourself.

You can use their platform if you live in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa or Italy (but unfortunately you’re out of luck if you live in the US!)

The Tutor Pages

This is an excellent resource for UK based tutors. Rather than taking a commission, you just pay an annual fee to use their service and receive student enquiries directly. You can add articles to their website if you wish, which is a great way to show your expertise to potential students.

It’s a very flexible option for tutors, but unfortunately you have to be UK based to use their platform.

TutorMe offer another solution for online tutoring. They require you to have some previous teaching or tutoring experience, and either be enrolled or have graduated from an accredited university. You’ll also need a Facebook account in order to apply, which I guess is a way to ensure the integrity and legitimacy of all the tutors who use their site.

This site is slightly different to many of the tutoring sites out there in that tutors offer solutions to students who are having problems with something in a particular subject. As a tutor, you get paid for a solution. Sign up is free (as they make a small commission from the student if they decide to buy the solution of a tutor) and you get paid via Paypal.

Tutor Hub

Tutor Hub is another UK based tutoring website. In order to register, you need to be CRB or DBS checked. You can set your own rates but you get paid per minute of tuition as the students purchase “tutoring time”.

In order to use this website, you need to be resident in the US or Canada and be available to tutor online for at least 5 hours per week. They also require you to have a degree, or be currently studying at university. Also, it can take a while to process your application, from 1-3 weeks, which does seem a bit long.

Like most tutoring websites, you can work flexible hours but it can take a while to get things going.

Skooli comes with a host of great features for both students and tutors. Using their interactive platform you can see your student via video, use a digital whiteboard to help explain any topic, share files and the student can even replay the tutoring session afterwards. You have to be based in the US or Canada and like TutorMe, you need a social media account to register in order to verify your identity.

As a tutor you are paid a flat rate of $25 per hour and you will always be paid for a minimum of 15 minutes work (even if a student only needs a few minutes of your time!)

Start Your Own Tutoring Business And Find Your Own Students

However, while these sites are great for finding your feet as a tutor and earning some money each month, ultimately you can earn more if you can set up your own tutoring business. By attracting students yourself you don’t have to pay any monthly fees or commissions to a third party.

Yes, it can take some work to get established but with the right business plan and marketing strategies, you can find students by tutoring at home and online.
